JAKARTA, KABARLINK.com - Anticipating the surge in travelers during the upcoming Idulfitri holidays, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has been diligently preparing to ensure a smooth and safe journey for all. Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, revealed that a comprehensive survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) projects a potential movement of 146.48 million people, representing a staggering 52% of Indonesia's population.
The survey, conducted in collaboration with Litbang Kompas, indicates that the peak of the exodus is expected on March 28, 2025 (H-3), with an estimated 12.1 million people on the move. The return flow is predicted to peak on April 6, 2025 (H+5), with a massive 31.49 million people traveling back.
Whoosh Gears Up for Lebaran Rush
PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), operator of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train Whoosh, is also bracing for the Lebaran rush. General Manager Corporate Secretary KCIC, Eva Chairunisa, stated that Whoosh will operate 62 regular trips per day from March 21 to April 11, an increase from the usual 52 trips. This translates to a total of 808,946 seats available across 1,346 trips.
“We anticipate a 30% increase in Whoosh passengers during the Lebaran period, reaching approximately 24,000 passengers per day,” explained Eva. To accommodate the expected surge, KCIC has extended the ticket purchase window to 25 days before departure, offering greater flexibility for travelers.
Strategic Measures to Mitigate Congestion
Minister Dudy emphasized the government's commitment to implementing effective policies to prevent congestion at transportation hubs and on roads. These measures include promoting Work from Anywhere (WFA), organizing free homecoming programs, implementing traffic engineering, and managing traffic flow in high-risk areas.
Key Travel Destinations and Origins
The survey identifies Jawa Tengah as the top destination (36.6 million people), followed by Jawa Timur (27.4 million), Jawa Barat (22.1 million), Yogyakarta (9.4 million), and Sumatera Utara (6.2 million). The primary origin points are Jawa Barat (30.9 million), Jawa Timur (26.4 million), Jawa Tengah (23.3 million), Banten (7.9 million), and DKI Jakarta (6.7 million).
Anticipated Congestion Points
Potential congestion points include the Trans-Java Toll Road (7.95 million cars) and arterial roads (4.41 million motorcycles). The busiest departure terminals are Purabaya Surabaya (1.08 million people), while the busiest arrival terminal is Giwangan Yogyakarta (609,450 people). For train travel, Pasar Senen Station in Jakarta is expected to be the busiest departure station (4.08 million people), and Yogyakarta Tugu Station the busiest arrival station (2.02 million people).
Enhanced Security and Services
To ensure passenger safety and convenience, KCIC has deployed 530 security personnel and 688 service officers across all Whoosh stations and routes.
Coordination and Collaboration
Minister Dudy highlighted the extensive coordination efforts with various stakeholders, including ministers, regional heads, state-owned enterprises, and private sector entities. This collaborative approach aims to ensure a well-coordinated and safe Lebaran transportation experience for all.
The Ministry of Transportation is committed to ensuring a safe, comfortable, and smooth Lebaran journey for all travelers. The 24-hour Transportation Information Center will be operating to monitor traffic flow across all modes of transportation.
